Tens of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery has been stolen from a home in Melrose.

Police were called to the home on Waverley Road on Saturday morning, after a neighbour noticed the house had been broken into.

Officers aren't sure when exactly thieves entered the property, as the owners had been on holiday.

A total of £33,000 worth of jewellery and an ipad 2 were taken from the home. Other items from the property were found scattered in a nearby field.

Police are currently carrying out door-to-door enquiries, and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Constable Corrine Bird said: “Officers were called to Waverley Road at around 10am on Saturday 15 March after a neighbour spotted that a house on the street had been broken into.

“We urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to come forward.”
