£250,000 is being spent in the Borders to help bring unemployed young people back into work.
80 new job placements for 16 to 24 year olds will be created with the help of Barnardo's Works East. The Youth Employment Scotland scheme provides grants of half of salary costs to local businesses for a six month period.
Councillor Stuart Bell is the local authority's Executive Member for Economic Development....
The scheme is open for applications until 31 March 2014 with job placements running until the end of September 2014.
Barnardo’s Works East will work with local partners including the Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), Skills Development Scotland, Job Centre Plus and Business Gateway to encourage small businesses to create these new job opportunities for young people.
Local businesses can register their interest by emailing their contact details to YESScheme@scotborders.gov.uk or by calling 01835 825600.
While young people interested in taking part can contact Barnardo's Works East on firstname.lastname@example.org or 0131 559 3940.
